Overview of Meghalaya

Meghalaya, which translates to the abode of clouds, is one of the most beautiful states in the North-East India. It is one of the most scenic states of the Northeast which provides its tourists everything from sightseeing, recreation activities, amazing cuisines and festivals that are culturally diverse. The most popular towns within Meghalaya would be Shillong and Cherrapunji. Shillong which is known as the Scotland of the East and Cherrapunji, is known due to its heavy density of rainfall annually. The Hill station is a beautiful combo of hills, valleys, lakes, caves and waterfalls, which makes the place amazingly beautiful.

Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya which is one of the first places that tourist love to visit. The small town is seamlessly beautiful and is also a great destination for shopping and some quality time. The small town gets alive at night too and offers an amazing night life to its tourists. Mawlynnong Village (Shillong)

This village in Meghalaya has been voted as Asia’s cleanest village and is a great place to visit and see how a rural population can become good citizens despite living a life of backwardness. The houses are cleanly placed and are really a wonderful scene here. The beautiful clean village stands out distinctively and is one of the natural wonders of north east and the Mawlynnong waterfall here is a sight to behold.

Laitlum Canyon (Shillong)

If you are in love with trekking, the Laitlum Canyon must be in your bucket list. The adventure here is really challenging and the terrains can be really hard to conquer, however, trekkers do not like to achieve something that can be easily achieved. The views of the sunrise and the sunset from here along with the panoramic view of Meghalaya are splendidly breathtaking.

Double Decker Living Root Bridge (Cherapunjee)

The Bridge is present in the heart of one of the rainiest place in India, Cherapunjee. Meghalaya is well known worldwide for its naturally formed structures, that stands uniquely since its inception and is liked by travelers from around the world. The bridge is about 2000 slippery steps which is often covered in moss, making it dangerous to use.

Lalong Park (Jowai)

The park is situated around 10 km from Jowai and is a beautiful place worth a visit. It is a great place which you cannot afford to miss. The park is one of the best soothing places that you must visit for a soothing relaxing experience away from the noise and pollution of the city. The view of the Myndtu River and the valley is beautifully green and a sight for the healing of the soul.

Balpakram National Park (Tura)

The Balpakram National Park in Tura, is among the selected places suitable for all levels of nature enthusiasts. The Park has a great list of Flora and fauna to offer to its visitors. Its landscape is beautiful and consists of canyons and gorges which are overlooking the wetland ecosystem of Bangladesh, the Tanguar Haor. It is also home to some of the rarest of wildlife like the Red panda and the Indian Bison.
